On the evening of March 22nd, 2017 we were so pleased to have a successful evening with parents, staff and participants from New Prospect School for the launch of Project Sunset. After greetings and an opening by First Nation Elder Donna Chief, and Youth Engagement Coordinator Brittany Norris, everyone took part in a community feast of an amazing spaghetti dinner. Once everyone was well fed, Sgt. Anne McCoy explained the Project’s objectives and curriculum to the parents and community members present. She then challenged everyone by choice to take part in an experiential learning exercise to gain an understanding of what the students will be doing during in-class sessions. Anne then walked everyone through an affinity exercise, where as a group, we worked to answer the question, “If you looked down on New Prospect School on its best day, what does that look like?” It gave us all a chance for insightful discussion – and laughter!
